Hypocrisy. This trait seems to be much too common in recent times. When taking the definition to its extreme, it can be seen in pretty much all human interaction. But generally, hypocrisy means to act as if you live by higher standards when in actuality, you live by the same standards as those you despise. Now what makes a hypocrite even worse than those with these lower standards is they are unaware of what they are doing, not being able to see their imperfections. Because of this, they end up bringing these low standards to their extremes, while still being able to justify their actions in the name of virtue.
This type of attitude has taken over, becoming the new normal. Inhibiting humans from making any real progress, instead, allowing the same negative attitudes to continue in different names. The absence of hypocrisy is one of the sole contributors to all things new and good. Bringing actual change and stopping old mistakes from being repeated. Instead, we see these people despising old ways, as they grab a hold of the mentality that created those horrible things. Their attitude has been causing hate and divide since the dawn of time. They attempt to destroy hate with hate, fire with fire. Continuing the suffering they claim to stand against. This is the true definition of a hypocrite. They are everywhere, socially accepted, with the nerve to call what they do justice.
These people use common goods, then twist and morph them to their extremes. Creating new, broad definitions, that are quite literally impossible to avoid when you realise what they are. They have an ideology that thrives on guilt. Like a modern Christianity, only much more stupid. They never seemed like a threat, more of a joke. But like any cult or religious movement, they have either by design or by chance, found a sequence of ideas and attitudes, closely aligned with societal biases and opinions and weaponised them. Grabbing ahold of scared, helpless and afraid individuals. They can’t be argued with, they feel themselves to be the heroes of the little world they have created in their minds. Rather, they are delusional, stuck in a very narrow perspective. Unable to see the larger picture, unable to even see themselves. They’ve spiralled so far down they have no clear view of reality.
They suck people in with their aggressive, forceful mentality. Making you choose to either join them or revolt against them, with no in-between. Which subsequently brings you to their level, you fall into their narrow-minded attitude. Almost proving the reality they so desperately want to be true. They’re creating a world, that is as bad as they say it is. How do you fight against these people without becoming one of them?
To be everything their not. Reasonable, subtle and open-minded. The domino effect of this is creating the types of people who display these qualities. Anyone who has fallen prey to the mentality will wake up if these traits are properly integrated. And those who haven't been sucked in will be protected. Reason and open-mindedness by their very nature will dismantle it. But all this is easier said than done.
What does it mean to be subtle? To be delicate in the way you bring about change, so it’s almost unrecognisable, hence unable to be easily and directly criticised. These people run mainly on hate, seeing something as easily criticisable from their viewpoint fuels this hate. The more subtle the better and deeper ingrained the new ideas become. What’s ironic about this method of change is this is exactly how their destructive mentality spread so deep and rapidly, to begin with. It was subtle, then before we knew it had already taken over, the ideas had had plenty of time to sink in and grow. To inevitably become as destructive as they are.
“The good ideas” are the hard part. There’s no way to correctly define what’s necessarily good. But to start somewhere, as mentioned previously, open-mindedness is the key. Any idea that starts based on being open, is good. You could argue that’s where all ideas start, but it’s remaining open once different ideas have been discovered which allows actual progression. Be willing to listen, understand and maybe even accept some of their ideas. They're all based in reality in some form. The initial observations have just been pushed to their extremes. They've lost themselves and their ideas to the mentality they've adopted.
Hypocrisy has always been generally frowned upon, a universal wrong. But it’s ramped up recently. Stemming from a general lack of awareness. People are retracting back into basic human instincts. Like in a constant state of fight or flight. No personnel reflection, only immediate reaction. Which seems to correlate with social media and other avenues of the increasingly “technological” world. People are gratifying their basic primal desires because of the feeling of safety the online world gives them, like wearing a mask. This doesn’t take away from the fact that many good things come with the internet but it being such a new part of human existence makes us especially susceptible to these new problems. In a way, it seems like the internet is its own new world, making us re-experience past big evolutionary steps in terms of cognitive and moral intelligence. Hopefully, as we previously did, we evolve in this other world for the better. Learning the new landscape and how to manage it. Because if we don’t, what is currently going in the world will only get worse. Allowing these amateur, destructive mentalities and ideologies to so easily infect peoples minds due to their primal stupidity.
